A: Many private insurances have followed Medicare's lead in providing special footwear benefits for their policy holders with diabetes.
Q: What will medicare cover?
A: Medicare statutes were amended in May 1993 when Congress provide for partial reimbursement for depth shoes, custom-molded shoes, and shoe inserts or modifications to qualifying Medicare Part B patients with diabetes.
Q: What will I need to get my shoes?
A: is required for Medicare to partially reimburse the beneficiary for the footwear, footwear modifications and foot orthoses needed to protect their feet.
Q: How long will it take?
A: In most cases it will take a week to ten days, Kaiser Permanente patients can be done in about an hour.
Q: Do I need an appointment?
A: Walk-in are welcome, but diabetics would be better served by making an appointment with a certified Pedorthist(C.Ped) trained in shoe fitting and diabetic foot management.
